Zentangle #51

Good morning friends

Here is my Zentangle #51, for the Weekly Zentangle challenge by Jane Dickinson on FaceBook. This week the tangle is JONQAL. I had so much fun with it and I'm loving all the variations I've seen from the other people in the group.

Rather than colour in the alternate squares black, I alternated horizontal and vertical lines. Also I remembered to take a photo before I started shading so will share both here. The first one has no shading yet ...

And here is the finished tile ...

You can always check out Jane's YouTube Channel to see all her weekly videos.

Tangle a Day Calendar 2016, January 10, 11 & 12th

Good morning friends

Time for another Tangle A Day Calendar page. This page has a different tangle on each day - ones I really enjoyed drawing and continue to use. Henna Drum was a surprise to me - I didn't think I'd enjoy it as much as I do. I have been drawing it on envelopes and adding colour with pencils and it looks very pretty.

Weekly Zentangle Challenge - SCHWAY

Good morning friends

Today's share is my Zentangle Tile #50, which I made for the Weekly Zentangle Challenge. This week the challenge tangle is Schway.

I'm learning that I'm not drawn to geometric type patterns, but this one comes together in such a cool way I got excited about it. I have a graph paper notebook that I try out new tangles in, and yup - Schway looked great.

Then I added it to my tile and wondered where I went so terribly wrong. Ha - graph paper vs free hand straight lines is where I went wrong. But - there are no mistakes in Zentangle so I fiddled a bit and got a tile I could live with. :-)

I think I'd like to work a bit more with Schway, which surprises me - but there is something about the 'ah HAH' moment when you add the stroke that becomes an arrow that's appealing.

Zentangle Tile #11, made into a Pull Card.

Good morning friends

Today's share is a Zendala, done for a friend.

When it was finished, I attached it to a hand-made card which you can find HERE.

I used one of my favourite card dies, the Spiral Circle Pull Card designed by Karen Burniston for Elizabeth Craft Designs. The tuck slots keep the card closed until the recipient pulls the sides to open it.

Here is the card opened. I tangled around the outer circles and stamped words on the left panel. The right panel was where I wrote my message.

It's a String Thing #137

Good morning friends

I played along with "It's A String Thing' #137 this week ... but I sure struggled with it. In fact, I did not like my finished tile AT ALL so for the first time I actually tossed a Zentangle tile and started again.

I'm wondering if I am just not good at strings that aren't the traditional non-representatial?

Not sure I'm crazy about this one either but I really enjoyed the new-to-me tangle Mel Mel and will have fun with that on future tiles and ZIA's. There is just something about a continuous line tangle that appeals to me.  Warped Eggs was one of the challenge tangles, but I could not get it. I have a note book page full of attempts ... and I threw in the towel. As with the tangle Vega, the steps just escape my brain.

Here is my Zentangle tile #49 - I gave it my best shot.

Zentangle Tiles #6 and #7

Good morning friends

I have two Zentangle tiles to share today. First up is #6 and I was just SO happy with how it turned out! One of my favs - I guess I gravitate to organic tangles.

For my tile #7, it was my first time using JessiCup but I'm not a fan of it on this tile. Looks too much like a cartoon character's eyes, or at least the way I drew it. May or may not play with that one again. Ha - managed to sneak in another Paradox though!

Zentangle Tile #48

Good morning friends

I had a chance to join in with Jane Dickinson's Weekly Zentangle Facebook challenge, with the tangle ZENITH being the focus this week. This was a new one for me, and I liked it. The string is #200 from tanglepatterns.com, and once I added Pais the tile took on a life of it's own!

It's a String Thing #136

Good morning friends

I had a chance to play along with this week's 'It's a String Thing' ... and here is my tile #47. It was a lot of fun to do!

The string is to celebrate 'Pi' day ... and just like the C4C card challenge last weekend, I'm just not going there. Especially not dealing with math on a Zentangle tile! I chose not to aura the string to resemble the Pi symbol. :-)

Leaving my Tripoli 'naked' as I like the way it becomes a subtle background and lets W2 be the focus. I always love seeing W2 come together.

Zentangle Tile #46

Good morning friends

In honour of Chris on the Square One, Purely Zentangle Facebook page - I created this tile using the challenge tangle 'YUMA'.

I used a letter "L" as the string ... L for Love which is the focus of the challenge. Chris lost her mother recently, and YUMA is a meaningful challenge for her. This tangle was done in the spirit of Love and I thought about all the people I love while I worked.

Tiles #44 and #45

Good morning friends

I have something a little different to share today. While I've only being doing Zentangle about 6 months, I still feel like a 'purist'. I love doing my tiles, corner dots, border and string. With a black pen and graphite shading. I enjoy learning new tangles and having the tiles non-representational and viewable from any direction.

I haven't added colour to my tiles either, although I have sure enjoyed seeing what other's have been doing with colour.

I was lucky enough to attend the Mesa Rubber Stamp Show this month with a friend, and while at the Judi-Kins booth I had a revelation of sorts. I'm a rubber stamper at heart, and there in front of me were outline stamps that I could easily use as a 'string'. I was so excited I could hardly wait to get home to play.

While visiting with my friend, I added a bunch of tangles to one of my purchases - a flower stamp. When it was finished I wasn't that happy with the finished tile but looked at it as a learning piece. Then I thought I'd add some colour to see how I'd feel about the tile afterwards.

The colour was added using PanPastel chalks with a touch of coloured pencil. I think I like it enough to break free and add colour to my tiles. In time. Meanwhile, here is the second tile done with the flower stamp as the string. This time I was undistracted, enjoying the calming process of Zentangle and I like the tile much better!

Penguin Template, Zentangle Inspired Art

Good morning friends

Today's share was made from a template by Ben Kwok. I had so much fun filling it in.

Lately it seems more and more of the Zia's shared on his Oranation Creation FaceBook page have also been coloured. At this point I'm enjoying the pure look of black ink with graphite shading. I have scanned my completed templates though, so if I ever want to go back and add colour I can print them off.

This one was printed onto photo paper at 10 x 8", matted on black card stock and given to a friend who loves penguins. She hadn't seen the templates before so was quite intrigued.
