Tangle a Day Calendar 2016, February 13th, 14th & 15th

Good morning friends

Today's share is another February page in my 2016 Tangle A Day Calendar by Carol Ohl.

We were just on a family holiday on the BC Coast, where I tried in vain to find a CTZ that was teaching a class. I did get a lot of tangling in though! I was in a great deal of pain and there were days where my mobility was severely limited. Those days I sent the family off to do fun things and I sat at the table with my tiles and my calendar.

The weather was not conductive to taking photos though. I'll have to get my March pages photographed soon.

Zentangle Tile #77

Good morning friends

Today's share is another tile I made while on vacation at the BC Coast ... my Zentangle Tile #77:

I love starting my tiles with the dots in each corner, a border then a string. The string sections almost tell me what they would like to be filled with.

Colourful Tangled ATC

Good morning friends

Today I have an ATC to share, that I tangled on one of my colourful backgrounds. Click HERE to see all nine of the backgrounds. I used the top centre piece, which is also an official Zentangle product.

Adele Bruno's It's A String Thing Challenge last week included the tangle DEX which was new to me. I could not make the rest of the challenge tangles play nicely together, so didn't participate in the challenge ... but I did want to try DEX.

Zentangle Tile #76

Hello friends

I have a Zentangle tile to share today. We were on vacation on the BC coast, but unfortunately the condo we rented turned out to be a second floor unit (hubby's mistake). I was in a lot of pain from doing the stairs, and there were a couple of days where I had to remain behind and send the rest of the family off to have fun.

Always able to entertain myself, I managed a couple of tiles AND a few pages in my Tangle A Day Calendar. Have to say though, the lighting has been terrible - lots of gloomy days. Not a problem for having fun but definitely a problem for photographing my calendar pages. Even the tile photos are a little off, but I'm going to share them anyhow.  Today is my tile #76:

Zentangle Tile #75

Good morning friends

The Diva has a new challenge this week ... Weekly Challenge #271. She used a technique called 'Hefty Hack' to add colour to her tile before starting to tangle. Being a card maker however, I used a technique we stampers been doing for ages - and I simply added colour to my acrylic block with dye inks and spritzed it with water before pressing it onto the tile.

I did use official Zentangle tiles, because they are made of such beautiful paper. And they took the water really well! I even tried pressing two tiles together face to face when one tile ended up more than a little wet. Worked like a charm. I used my heat gun to dry the tiles.

Colour! I can't believe I am going to try Zentangle on a coloured tile! I was on a bit of a roll and ended up adding colour to 9 tiles and two official ATC's. They turned out so pretty!

Have to say though, I am not emotionally ready for the challenge "Beads of Courage" so instead I worked with the colours Laura provided. I thought I might do a BEad INSPIRED  tile later in the week, but have decided to take the high road and leave it be. Thus my Zentangle tile #75 will be for the Diva's challenge this week.

It was a lot of fun doing a tile on a coloured background - and I will enjoy using the rest of my coloured pieces too. I chose the most subdued one of the bunch for my first attempt (2nd from the top right)

Tangle a Day Calendar 2016, February 10th, 11th & 12th

Good morning friends

Today's share is another page of my Tangle A Day Calendar by Carol Ohl. I got part-way through May and haven't had hardly any playtime since. Not even for my cards ... although I have had to get busy on that front because of occasions coming up that will require cards. And I do love making cards for my friends and family. (Blog - alteredscrapbooking.blogspot.ca )

I impose these weird rules on myself ... one is that I won't take photos of my Tangle A Day Calendar until I've completed the entire month. Thankfully February is finished and photographed so I am able to share those photos with you.

March is also done, and I hope to get that photographed later in the week. Meanwhile, I am very happy with this page. Voga ... I could just sit and draw Voga over and over again. Then you add that touch of shading and ... poof. So many of Carol Ohl's tangles are like that. I call them pure magic.

I had purchased a set of divided page protectors for a binder, and have slipped all my Zentangle tiles into that. It's fun to flip through and look at them - and I also like to share them so it makes it easier to flip through and choose a tile to gift to someone.

Funny thing happened in early April. While flipping through the pages I noticed several of my challenge tiles are ones that I am not overly happy with, and certainly not ones I'd want to gift. That realization has kept me from participating in challenges just to participate. I certainly understand the purpose of a challenge is to CHALLENGE you ... but if I don't 'feel' it, then the challenge doesn't give me joy to create nor leave me with a tile I'm proud of - and that's not very ZEN.

I also had this self-imposed rule to participate in challenges every week, once I had started to participate in that group. I wanted to become more familiar with the participants and their work, to support the hostess, and be able to put names to styles. However once I gave myself permission to participate because I WANTED to, I felt happier and more excited to see what the different challenges are. I'm also much happier with my completed challenge tiles.  There have been a few recent challenges that did not appeal to me in the least, and a couple that when I view the challenge tiles I'm happy I didn't attempt to join in. So, note to self ... stop making up rules and just enjoy.

Tangle Me This Sketchbook

Good morning friends

Aheesha Sativa had a draw on Face Book for one of her wonderful Zentangle Sketchbooks - Tangle Me This. I was the LUCKY name chosen ... and my sketchbook arrived yesterday. I immediately took a couple of pictures to share with you.

Aleesha wanted to surprise me with the interior colour and I have to say the lavender is just lovely. The paper is also a very nice quality - I can't wait to start to draw on it. There are thin paper leaves in between each of the printed tile lavender pages and each of those are a different colour so the book 'reads' more colourful than lavender. These leaves help keep the graphite shading from smudging the facing pages, but could also be used for journaling or note keeping.

Below you can see how there is a printed tile (3-1/2" square) and two smaller Bijou tiles (2"). Would you believe I have never done a Bijou tile? This could be FUN!!! The yellow fly leaf is curved over so you can see both pages ... normally it lays flat.

THANK YOU Aleesha - I am going to enjoy using my sketchbook for sure!

Note - you can find these books at Aleesha's Etsy store HERE as well as a video showing her artwork in her own sketchbook.

Zentangle Tile #73

Good morning friends

The tangle focus on the Square One Purely Zentangle Face Book group is 'RUNDL'. This is a fun tangle - I'm so glad I was able to play along this week. I'm still playing with C-Wing as well.  My tile was started with a string from TanglePatterns.com ... #211, although it seemed to disappear as I worked. It's so cool when that happens!

It's A String Thing #148

Good morning friends

I am happy to play along with Adele Bruno's It's A String Thing challenge this week! Fengle is the challenge ... a new to me tangle.  Adele suggested it could be used as the string, which is how I drew it here.

I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with using Fengle this week.

Zentangle Pull Card

Good morning friends

Today's share is actually a cross post with my card blog (Altered Scrapbooking) but since it features a  Zentangled ATC (on an official Zentangle ATC!) I thought I would share it here as well.

At the beginning of each month a friend in a different city and I pop something in the mail to each other.  This is what I sent to her for June. I was happy to see how well the ATC fit on the Rectangle Pull Card so you will be seeing more of these for sure. I may or may not have asked (begged) Karen Burniston to design a square Pull Card that would fit a 3-1/2" Zentangle Tile for future release.

Here is a look at the ATC on it's own ...

Inside the card are stamped words, a bit of stencilling and tangling too.

Supplies:
Rectangle Pull Card, Pop it Ups - Karen Burniston (Elizabeth Craft Designs)
Patterned paper - Tim Holtz

Zentangle tile #70

Hello friends

Today I am happy to share my Zentangle Tile #70 - for Jane Dickinson's Weekly Zentangle Tangle Video on Face Book. This week the focus Tangle is WELL - a new tangle for me but there are so many variations and ways one can take this one. So fun!

I also added Isla, another new tangle for me but one that will be lots of fun. Flux got tucked into the openings of Isla along with some more dark areas.

Tangle a Day Calendar 2016, February 7th, 8th & 9th

Good morning friends

I am so excited! Aleesha from 'Tangle Me This' had a FaceBook draw for one of her Zentangle Sketchbooks and I won!!!  You can check out her cool sketchbooks on Etsy HERE.

I have to say, I've been suffering the past week with my RA. My knees are SO painful and my mobility very limited. I'm needing my cane in the house again - and I hate hate HATE that I'm worse every day. Hopefully the insurance will approve the new medication and I can get this disease into remission. So Aleesha's email was just the lift I needed today for sure.

Meanwhile, I'd like to share a page from my Tangle a Day Calendar by Carol Ohl.
